About Photostimulation

“Most people are more comfortable
with old problems than new solutions.”

What is Photostimulation?

Photostimulation is a new technology that works directly on the central nervous system to calm excess EGG (brain wave) activity. The system consists of a computer, eyeglasses containing tiny LED lights, and sensors applied to the scalp. The computer reads the brain waves and sends precisely timed signals to the lights in the glasses. Very gently, the process induces the brain to break out of its habitual patterns. We experience the change as calmness and added flexibility as we go through life.

How does it work?

The brain is designed to be efficient. During Photostimulation, the brain “renormalizes” itself. The brain uses the light stimulation to calm itself, to return to a state where it is operating most efficiently, and has the most flexibility to respond to stimuli. People report that as their brains become quieter and more adaptable, they feel less upset and have more energy and freedom to address the situations that come up in life.

Who can benefit from this form of treatment?

Almost everyone has areas of their lives where they are prone to emotional upset. These emotions are reflected in brainwave activity that is calmed by the Photostimulation process. Photostimulation has been effective with depression and anxiety disorders, post traumatic stress, closed head injury, as well as generalized feelings of stress in life. Many people seek treatment to increase their sense of well being and effectiveness rather than address a specific issue.

Is it safe? Are there any side effects?

Photostimulation takes advantage of the brain’s own self regulation system. It is a gentle way to assist the brain to return to a calmer and more flexible operating state. Out of thousands of hours of treatment with this technology, there have been no reported injuries.

Is this therapy?

Photostimulation works with our physiology, not our psychology. Those familiar with therapy find that the at Ease process is in some ways similar to therapy, but no form of counseling is offered as part of this work. It is not intended as a replacement for medical or psychological treatment.

What does it feel like?

People generally feel extremely relaxed during a Photostimulation session. As the brain becomes calmer, most people feel a pleasant sense of well being arise. The process bypasses the conscious mind and works directly on the nervous system. Rather than work with thoughts, we calm the processes from which the thoughts arise.

How long until I feel results?

Most people feel noticeably calmer after just one session. Almost everyone can feel a difference by the third session. Individual reactions will vary, but the predominant reaction for the first four or five sessions is a clear increase in well being. People feel less stressed, less depressed, and less anxious. These results hold true even for those who have had long term difficulties or who have not had success with other treatments or medication.

What if I am already taking medication to control my symptoms?

There is no need to stop or change medication in order to start Photostimulation. By normalizing EEG, Photostimulation brings about a permanent shift in the brain, returning it to its natural or preferred operating state. Depending on the condition, the change can be so dramatic that people are able to reduce or eliminate their medication.

Are the effects permanent? Will I need a “tune up”?

Once a course of treatment is complete, there is no need to keep coming back. The changes in the brain will remain stable unless there is a new injury. That said, there does not seem to be a time when the process stops working. People are welcome to come back or continue as long as they feel they are making progress.
